THE EVOLUTION OF THE PILLARLESS AND CROSS-DOME TYPES OF ORTHODOX CHURCH PLANS IN THE 18th – EARLY 20th CENTURY IN PENZA REGION


The article discusses the compositional evolution and identifies the typological groups of cathedrals in Penza region. The development of the longitudinal axial and centric plans of Russian orthodox churches is retraced, and transitional types are determined. The techniques and variations that determined additional subtypes of cathedral plans are revealed.
