THE EVOLUTION OF MEDITERRANEAN ISLAND ARCHITECTURE IN HISTORICAL RETROSPECTIVE. PART I. EARLY NEOLITHIC AGE


The article considers the early neolithic age from the perspective of the evolution of architecture since its first monuments as products of architecture carrying semantic, functional and compositional contexts. The author focuses on the most striking examples of architecture on Cyprus and Corsica; specifically, in Cyprus this is the culture of Khirokitia, an ancient settlement on the bank of the Maroni river, while Corsica is exemplified by the ancient burial site «La dame de Bonifacio».
