The need to change the paradigm of contemporary architectural theory requires revisiting its central category, i.e. space. A review of the spatial concepts proposed by some domestic and international authors makes the author decline the idea of architectural space as an exclusively ideal category in architectural theory. The article shows a new area of research into the nature of architectural space involving its material component.
