ON THE ISSUE OF SEISMOTECTONICS OF THE CENTRAL PART OF THE URAL REGION

The Middle Urals area of elevated seismicity is associated with the site of interference of the Ural recent orogeny with older transorogenic structures in an earth's crust and mantle. The epicentres of earthquakes are associated with the border zone of the Volga/Kama shoulder of the Eastern European platform (EEP) and the Urals. The source of seismicity are, presumably, the tectonic tensions accumulating in the Central Urals rising during the paleozoic time as a result of interaction between EEP and the Urals.

Key words: seismotectonics, orogeny, earthquakes, transorogenic structures, tectonic tensions.
